Pongco Bridge due for extensive repair

SORSOGON CITY, Sept 24 (PIA) — Pongco Bridge, the only means of access between the municipality of Prieto Diaz and Bacon District in Sorsogon City, was recommended for extensive repair by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Sorsogon Second District Engineering Office.

Jake R. Alamar, DPWH engineer, said the bridge suffered damage in the superstructure due to years of service to all kinds of vehicles and exposure to natural and environmental hazards.

“The project, which is the repair of superstructure of Pongco Bridge and approaches located at Ko613-900 in Brgy Pongco, Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon is being funded under the DPWH regular infrastructure project for CY-2012 and being implemented by the DPWH Sorsogon 2nd District Engineering Office,” said Alamar.

It has an allocation of more than P6 million and the project was awarded to Alpha Ryder Construction and Supplies.

Among the personnel behind the implementation of the project are Jessie Baluyot, engineer and chief of DPWH S2DEO who was assigned as project engineer while Eduardo Jebulan, engineer, was designated as project inspector.

Alamar said the physical accomplishment of the project as of press time are as follows: Item A –Construction of Detour/Alternative Route is 100 percent accomplished; Item B or the repair of the bridge is 18.64 percent; Item 102- or the removal of existing structure was 100 percent accomplished; while Items 405- structure concrete is 48 percent.

“The implementation of the said project which is expected to be finished before the end of this year is indeed vital to the growth and development of the aforementioned local government units,” said Alamar. (MAL/BAR-PIA 5/HED-DPWH)
