MANILA, Philippines – Six soldiers were reportedly wounded after alleged members of the New People’s Army ambushed a military truck in Sorsogon province Thursday, a military spokesman said.

In a text message, 9th Infantry Division spokesman Major Harold Cabunoc said that at 11 a.m., around six NPA rebels ambushed the truck loaded with 30 soldiers who were involved in a tree-planting ceremony in Barangay (village) Montecarmelo, Castilla town.

Five soldiers were wounded after the truck crashed into bushy ravine near the roadside, Cabunoc said.

Meanwhile, one soldier, identified as Private First Class Erland Soliva, was injured by enemy fire.

All injured soldiers were brought to the 903rd Headquarters for medical treatment.

“This is the fourth ambuscade conducted by NPA rebels in Sorsogon province,” Cabunoc said.

Pursuit operations are ongoing, the military spokesman added.
